Money Doesn't Grow on Trees

When I was a kid (late 50’s and early 60’s), it was common to hear adults tell their kids “Close that door”, “that’s not in the budget”, and other things that expressed a lack of concern by the child for what it cost to provide for a household. Their expression was usually cased with the statement “money doesn’t grow on trees.” Credit was normally reserved for larger ticket items like a house, farm equipment, etc. and cash was always the preferred exchange.

As I write this, we are a few weeks from Christmas 2025. It is awesome to have Jesus as my Lord and Savior; but that is only the beginning. Only our spirit is saved, our body will never be saved in this life (we will get a new body at the resurrection). Our souls can come into agreement with our born-again spirit as we renew our minds in God’s Word, but it is not automatic.
Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Rom 12:2 KJV)
To be carnally minded is to live by our senses and worldly knowledge. Jesus said that satan came only to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10a). Credit is one of the ways that satan steals from us. I define credit as paying others to use your own money. God gives us power to get wealth, but whatever we don’t renew our mind in by God’s Word, will get stolen.
We’ve even created a god type in Santa Claus that promotes ungodly behavior. The Christian parent that teaches their child that Santa is a real being, is setting them up to not believe in Jesus. Both have supernatural power; both are believed on by faith. When your children learn that you are a liar, deceiving them about the one, why should they believe you about the other?
Words matter! The universe was created by words. God created us in His image in several ways. One is that that our words have power. We need to learn to place value in our words. Our integrity depends on it. Jesus warns us to place value on our words.
A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (Mat 12:35-37 KJV)
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (Joh 14:26 KJV)
Holy Spirit came to teach us and lead us into all truth. Ask Him to help you place value on your words.
