Heb 5:1  For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

Under the law (religion - man's attempt to access God), man is attempting to follow rule's that he hopes will give him favor with God. Messiah is the end of the law...

(Rom 10:4 KJV)

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

(Rom 11:6 KJV)

And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

The priest that was ordained under the law, could offer only the acts specified in the law as an atoning sacrifice, but Christ was offered up once for all time. Messiah (Christ) was/is the eternal sacrifice. It is our spirit that is eternally saved and sealed; it cannot sin, therefore we (our spirit) are as righteous as Jesus is.

(Heb 7:24 NAS95)

but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently.

(Heb 7:25 NAS95)

Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

(Heb 7:26 NAS95)

For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens;

(Heb 7:27 NAS95)

who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.
